Malyn was the last independent king of Aloren, though he never possessed effective power. His father, Alyn, who had made efforts to centralise Aloren and quell the nobles, vesting more power in the hands of the king, was assassinated in 327, leaving the seven-year-old Malyn dependent on regents and protectors for the first years of his reign, most notably the Shield Lord Kaeldten Maerathyn. Even after Malyn came of age, most of the power in Aloren rested in the hands of the Shield Lord.

In 345 the Khanate of Woodwind invaded Aloren and quickly conquered it, despite an attempt at defence by Hrathan-Tuor. Whether through conspiracy or incompetence, Kaeldten held back Aloren's army from the fighting, though later fled into hiding. The Khan of Woodwind, Dyamus Ignato, revealed to Malyn that he had secretly been in correspondence with Kaeldten and conspiring to overthrow Malyn using the Woodwind army. If this was true, Dyamus had no intention of honouring his part of the bargain, and offered Malyn the opportunity to remain in place as titular ruler, which he accepted. The Shield Lord was eventually tracked down and executed.

Malyn retained his titles and dignities as king, but Aloren was to all intents and purposes absorbed into the new Ignato Empire and ruled from Water's Watch, and even when the capital was moved to Miji Mkuu on the Aloren border Malyn remained little more than a puppet. He died in 395, at the age of 75. His grandsons and great-grandsons would later become influential figures in the Triumviral Senate, and prove instrumental in dismantling the Ignato Empire.
